| Paperclay Basket Tie-Ons |
Materials
Needed:
- Creative Paperclay
- Cookie Stamp
- Rolling pin
- Tooth pick
- Watercolor paints/brush
- Clear acrylic satin or gloss varnish
- Raffia or other tie-on material (Satin Sheen, papertwist, etc.)
- Oven - preheated to 250 degrees
- Non stick cookie sheet
- Fine grade sandpaper
Procedure:
- Working on a smooth clean crafting surface, use rolling pin to evenly flatten desired
amount of Paperclay to approximately 1/4" thickness. Rolling the Paperclay out
between two sheets of waxed paper will also work.
- Gently, with evenly distributed pressure, stamp cookie stamp pattern into the rolled out
Paperclay.
- With scissors, a round wooden toothpick, or other cutting tool, cut out stamped design
from the rolled out Paperclay.
- Using a toothpick, form a hole to string through hanging material.
- Place designed Paperclay piece onto a non-stick baking sheet, and put into oven
preheated to 250 degrees. Bake for approximately 35 minutes, turning design piece over to
other side partway through baking time.
- Remove carefully from oven and let cool.
- Use small folded pieces of sandpaper to sand away rough edges, and create a smooth edged
effect.
- Paint the basket tie-on with watercolors. The colors will lighten as the paint dries, so
be sure to apply a generous coat.
- Let dry, and varnish with acrylic satin or gloss acrylic varnish.
- Tie onto basket. Can also be used as decorative gift tag accents.
