| Eggshell Mosaic Easter Greeting
Card |
|
These are fun for kids and adults alike.
Materials
(per card):
- 1 piece of cardstock (your choice of color)
- eggs (about 4)
- food coloring or other Easter egg coloring
- vinegar (if you're using food coloring)
- white glue
- poster paint or acrylic paint (optional; see below)
Equipment:
- scissors
- pencil
- four cups or deep bowls
- spoon
- water
Instructions:
- Fold the card stock in half widthwise to make a card.
- Write your greeting on the inside of the card.
- Draw a large egg shape on the front of the card.
- As a guide, draw a pattern on your egg. You're going to glue colored eggshell pieces on the pattern, so draw using large shapes.
- There are three ways to create colored eggshells for this project.
- Hard-boil the eggs and cool them completely. Then in four cups or deep bowls, mix up four differnt egg colors. You can use commercial egg coloring kits, or combine 1 Tbsp of vinegar, 10 drops of food coloring and enough cold water to cover an egg. Place one egg in each cup and leave it there until the shell is the desired shade. Remove the egg, pat dry with paper towel and peel the egg. Make sure there are no bits of egg on the shell. Place each color of shell in a separate bowl or a separate pile on your work surface. Let the shells dry for about an hour.
- Shell the eggs first, rinse them to remove any egg residue, then dye the shells using the coloring methods described above. Remove the shells from the dye and spread them out on paper towel to dry completely.
- Use white eggshells. Rinse them to remove egg residue. Spread them out on paper towel to dry completely. After the shells are glued onto your card, color them by painting over them with acrylic paint that's been thinned with water (or use poster paint). Let paint dry.
- Now glue the shell pieces to your egg pattern. Let glue dry thoroughly.
