| Trinket Box Covered In Calendar Pictures |
Recylce last year's calendars and create unique trinket boxes. These make great Valentine's Day or Father's Day gifts.
Materials:
- paper mache or cardboard box with lid (choose a size that can be covered with your calendar pictures
- old calendar pictures
- dark acrylic pain (black or blue)
Equipment:
- white glue
- scissors or a craft knife.
- ruler
- pencil
- tape
- paint brush
Instructions:
- Paint the inside of your box and the inside of the lid a solid, dark color for a finished look. Let paint dry completely.
- Measure one side of your box. Add two inches to the width and two inches to the height.
- Find a calendar picture you like and cut it away from the calendar. (You can use any other type of picture you have available).
- Cut the calendar picture to the dimensions you have measured, centering the picture as much as possible. Mark the dimensions with a ruler and pencil, then cut with scissors or a craft knife.
- Fold the paper around the side of the box (the side you measured) and glue edges in place. Fold the top edge to the inside of the box, mitering the corners and secure with glue. Fold the bottom edge to the bottom of the box, mitering the corners and secure with glue. Let the glue dry completely before papering the next side.
- Repeat the measuring, cutting and papering procedures for the other three sides of the box with one difference: To create a finished edge on the sides, don't wrap the paper around the sides of the box. Instead, fold the excess paper under itself (that is, create a clean folded edge) and then glue the paper in place.
- Measure the width and height of the top of the box. Add two times the width of the box rim. Then, add two inches.
- Cut a suitable calendar picture and wrap around the outside of the lid, folding the edges to the inside, mitering the corners and securing with glue. Let glue dry thoroughly.
- You can add a picture to the bottom of the box, if you wish.
- For a great Father's Day gift, fill the box with candies, nuts, socks, golf balls or some of Dad's favorite goodies.
