New Year's Party: The Hats
Of course, it's not a New Year's celebration without party hats. Here's an idea for creating hats that fit our gold and silver theme.

Gold and Silver Crowns

These hats are easy to make. You'll need:

  • medium weight cardboard
  • scissors
  • gold and silver foil
  • hot glue and glue gun or white glue
  • plastic "gem" stones, colorful beads or sequins
  • stapler and staples

Cut a rectangle 22" long and 5" to 6" wide from the cardboard. Cut a saw tooth pattern from one long edge of the rectangle (the top of the crown). Make some of the crowns a little larger, maybe 24" to 25" long.

Place the pattern on the cardboard, trace it and cut it out.

Form a circle with your cardboard piece. Staple the two ends together, making sure that the flat part of the staple is to the inside of the crown.

Cover the hat with silver or gold foil. Tack with glue if necessary.

Decorate the crown by gluing on plastic gem stones, beads or sequins.
