Materials:
- medium weight aluminum embossing metal sheet (6" x 8.5")
- stylus
- craft knife
- tea light
- black acrylic paint (optional)
- tape
- scissors
- place mat, craft foam or a stack (about 25-50 sheets) of paper to make a soft work surface for embossing
Instructions:
- Cut your aluminum embossing sheet to 6" x 8.5" using a pair of scissors.
- Place the sheet on a flat working surface and tack it to the surface at the corners using tape. Place the tape at the very edge of the sheet so that it doesn't interfere with tracing of the pattern.
- Center the pattern on top of the embossing sheet and tack to the work surface using tape.
- To transfer the pattern to the embossing sheet, use the stylus to gently trace all of the line on the pattern.
- Remove the pattern and remove the tape from the embossing sheet.
- Place the embossing sheet on your soft work surface.
- Use the stylus to draw all of the lines in the patterns. Trace over each line three or four times.
- Using the craft knife, cut out the halo piece from the embossing sheet (see pattern).
- Now, pick up your embossing sheet and look at the back and the front of it. Decide which side you like the best. One side will have the pattern pressed inward, the other side will have the pattern pressed outward. Either side can be the "right" side. You choose.
- Once you've selected the "right" side, use the scissors to cut out your pattern.
- Now, fold the bottom of the candle holder (where indicated on the pattern) toward the wrong side of the candle holder. You want to create a 90 degree angle.
- Place your candle holder on a table and place the tea light at the back, making sure it sits on the metal. Keep your candle away from flammable items and never leave candles burning unattended.
Optional: Before cutting out the finished piece and folding it back, rub a little black paint over the "right" side. Then, using a soft cloth, rub off as much paint as possible, leaving some in the embossing. This adds a nice patina to the project.
