Stenciled Holiday Basket
Look for a large weave basket with flat surfaces rather than a tight rattan for this project. If the basket will hang on the door holding greens or Christmas cards by the hearth, look for one that has a flat back and handle. Some baskets are made for this purpose. The natural color and texture give this decoration a country look, but if you prefer it can be painted with spray or acrylic paint before adding the stencil design.
Materials:
  • Basket
  • Heart stencil
  • Red and green acrylic paint
  • Masking tape
  • Clear spray varnish
Instructions:
  1. Tape the stencil in position on the basket and tap the paint onto the cutout area. Every other heart is red or green and turned right side up or upside down to create an interesting pattern.
  2. Begin with a row of red stenciled hearts, leaving a space equal to one heart between each stencil.
  3. pattern seen in the photograph.
  4. If the basket will be on an exterior door, protect the painted stencil and the basket with a coat or two of clear spray varnish.
